Guests of Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, and Azamara Cruises Enjoy More Options, Peace of Mind with New ChoiceAir

Miami (Vocus) July 28, 2009

Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, and Azamara Cruises today announced ChoiceAir, a convenient new way for guests to purchase air transportation to and from their cruise. With ChoiceAir, guests will enjoy greater peace of mind; be able to select their preferred airline and a specific itinerary; and shop for the best prices among published fares and exclusive ChoiceAir specials. Unlike traditional programs, guests will know their airline itinerary as soon as they are ready to choose it, and – as with traditional air programs – there is a support team available to support guests before, during, and after they travel. ChoiceAir will be available to guests from the U.S. and Canada beginning August 3, 2009.

“The new ChoiceAir is a best-in-class program that will provide guests with convenience, flexibility, value, and support when it comes to the air transportation portion of their vacation,” said Doug Santoni, senior vice president of Revenue Management, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. “Our guests and our travel partners have told us they value the support we provide as part of our traditional air programs, but that they would also like a full choice of competitive air fares and schedules, and to be able to select their itinerary at the time they book their cruise. With ChoiceAir, we are responding to our customers’ wishes.”

Guests will be able to purchase ChoiceAir through a travel agent, directly from Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Cruises contact centers, and online through a new ChoiceAir website. Travel agents will be able to purchase ChoiceAir for their clients through CruisingPower.com, the three cruise lines’ dedicated site for travel professionals. A cost of $ 15 per person for domestic and $ 25 per person for international air travel will apply to ChoiceAir bookings, and will include access to the ChoiceAir support desk, aid in cases of flight delays, and assistance in making alternative flight arrangements in the event of missed embarkation. Guests’ cruise and air arrangements will both be present in a single consolidated booking record, creating greater convenience for travel agents, who would no longer need to manage two separate and independent bookings.

Irving Oil Awards $60,000 to Six Community Organizations Through Its Community Fuel Grant Program

Irving Oil Awards $ 60,000 to Six Community Organizations Through Its Community Fuel Grant Program

Portsmouth, NH (PRWEB) December 21, 2011

Irving Oil has just awarded $ 60,000 to support six local community organizations throughout Atlantic Canada and New England through its Community Fuel Grant Program. Each organization applied and requested for a grant worth up to $ 15,000.

“We are very pleased and proud to award these six groups with grants to help support education, the environment, and communities in need throughout our region,” said Harry Hadiaris, general manager of Irving Oil. “We received applications from more than 100 organizations, and we are honored to select these six. Congratulations to all.”

The following six organizations were each awarded up to a $ 15,000 grant:

Cowan Heights Elementary in St. John’s Newfoundland currently enrolls more than 356 students from kindergarten through grade seven. In May 2010, the City of St. John’s determined that the existing playground structure, which was 20 years old, was below code levels and would require removal. The Irving Oil Community Fuel Grant will allow Cowan Heights Elementary to purchase high-quality commercial playground equipment to withstand many years to come.

Earth Rangers of Woodbridge, Ontario, is an award-winning non-profit organization focused on communicating a positive, science-based message to children on the importance of protecting biodiversity. The Earth Rangers Education Outreach Program educates more than 300,000 students across Canada about the threats facing biodiversity. Earth Rangers’ live Animal Ambassadors are incorporated into the program to help connect children with wildlife and the environment. The Irving Oil Community Fuel Grant has made it possible for Earth Rangers to deliver their program to over 6,000 students on the eastern leg of their National Tour.

Everybody Wins! Connecticut, Inc. in Hartford, Ct., is an affiliate of Everybody Wins! USA, a national organization founded in 1991 in New York City to address illiteracy issues among inner-city school children. The organization targets children at-risk due to poverty, lack of English language skills, and poor academic achievement. Through the Irving Oil Community Fuel Grant, Everybody Wins! CT will be able to help improve literacy for more than 1,000 children.

Gulf of Maine Research Institute in Portland, Maine, is one of the Northeast’s most widely respected marine research institutes and operates the LabVenture! program for school children. GMRI is making a long-term investment in science literacy by providing programs to ignite the curiosity, ambition, innovation, and problem-solving potential of Maine’s young students. The Irving Oil Community Fuel Grant will help educate more than 10,000 Maine school children.

The Mentor Connector based in Rutland, Vermont, was established to collaborate with existing mentoring programs in the country and address the needs of youth on a waiting list for a mentor. The organization has made more than 100 matches since it began in 2004. Currently, the greatest need is to connect youth with male mentors, so the Irving Oil Community Fuel Gant will assist with recruitment efforts.

Saint George’s YouthNet based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has offered mentorship to the youth of Halifax, discovered and encouraged their talents, and helped them dream of a future for nearly 20 years. Saint George’s YouthNet recognizes that the north end neighborhood struggles with violence, neglect, addiction and abuse. The Irving after school program allows youth to relax and unwind in a healthy, supportive, and educational atmosphere. Through the Irving Oil Community Fuel Grant, YouthNet’s after school program, which provides youths with a healthy and educational atmosphere, will add an engaging art program.

“At Irving, we believe it is very important to support organizations in the communities where we all live and work,” said Hadiaris. “The Community Fuel Grant supports numerous programs with missions to educate and support young minds and encourage innovation.”

Organizations were selected based on their areas of key focus; where the community’s needs are the greatest; and Irving Oil’s presence in each area.

Since it began in spring 2010, the Irving Oil Community Fuel Grant Program has awarded more than $ 180,000 to 18 organizations throughout Atlantic Canada and New England. Organizations can submit applications for a grant until Dec. 31, and then another cycle will open in spring 2012. For more information on the program, visit http://www.theirving.com.

Layoffs Preventing You From Traveling? How Travel Insurance Can Help, Advises Squaremouth

Layoffs Preventing You From Traveling? How Travel Insurance Can Help, Advises Squaremouth

Squaremouth

St. Pete Beach, FL (PRWEB) September 16, 2011

The recent layoffs have many travelers turning to their travel insurance to see what protection they might have. “If someone is laid off, travel insurance gives them the option to cancel their trip and receive reimbursement, instead of taking a trip they may not be able to afford anymore,” says Sarah Byrne, Marketing Manager at Squaremouth.com, a site for comparing and purchasing travel insurance.

Although many travel insurance policies offer this coverage, it’s important to read the fine print. “Some travel insurance policies require you to be employed with the same company anywhere from one to five years to qualify for a refund, while others restrict coverage to full-time employees,” says Byrne.

Travelers wondering if their policy offers this coverage should look under the trip cancellation benefit for keywords, such as employment layoff or job termination.

Squaremouth warns travelers not to confuse employment layoff coverage with the benefit cancel for work reasons. Cancel for work reasons can cover someone if they are called back to work suddenly, if their company merges, if they have to relocate or if work is affected by fire, flood or other natural disaster. This benefit is an upgrade in many travel insurance policies, however, doesn’t apply if you lose your job, whereas most standard cancellation coverage does.

“If travelers don’t know the differences between the two, they could wind up paying extra for coverage that was already included,” says Chris Harvey, CEO of Squaremouth.

Travelers can purchase layoff coverage anytime before traveling, however, if someone has already been laid off, coverage will not be available. The layoff benefit is available in policies from CSA Travel Protection, Global Alert, HTH Worldwide, iTravelInsured, MH Ross, Seven Corners, Travel Guard, Travel Insurance Services, Travel Insured International, Travelex, TravelSafe and USA Assist.

Travel Insurance Advice for Travelers Whose Homes Could be Affected by Hurricane Irene, From Squaremouth

Travel Insurance Advice for Travelers Whose Homes Could be Affected by Hurricane Irene, From Squaremouth

Squaremouth

St.. Pete Beach, FL (PRWEB) August 25, 2011

Already on vacation or about to leave? With hurricane Irene heading towards the northeast, homeowners are paying close attention to where the storm will hit. “A little known benefit in most travel insurance policies could really make a difference for those travelers,” advises Chris Harvey, CEO of Squaremouth. “If a traveler’s home is rendered uninhabitable by a hurricane, their travel insurance policy may cover them to cancel their trip or come home early and receive reimbursement.”

Although many travelers would cut a trip short if they find out something bad happened to their home, almost none would make a travel insurance claim because they didn’t know they could. Having the option to file a claim would give travelers the chance to get back unused trip expenses, as well as the costs of flights to get home.

“This provides extra protection and peace of mind that unforeseen expenses are covered not just if something happens on the trip, but also at home while they are away,” says Kathy Townend, Marketing Manager at CSA Travel Protection.

Travelers should remember, in order for coverage to be effective, all travel insurance policies must be purchased before a hurricane is named. “Since Irene became a tropical storm on August 22, only policies purchased before that date will provide coverage for the storm,” explains Sarah Byrne, Marketing Manager at Squaremouth.

Another limitation to take into account is a travel insurance policy cannot be canceled due to “fear” of something bad happening. If someone wants the choice to cancel without providing a reason, Squaremouth recommends finding a policy that offers the Cancel for Any Reason benefit. Cancel for Any Reason allows someone to cancel the trip without explanation, and receive a refund up to 75 percent of the trip cost, however, to qualify for this benefit, travelers must purchase a travel insurance policy within 14-30 days of the initial deposit payment.

Freddie Awards To Return in 2012

Freddie Awards To Return in 2012

Colorado Springs, CO (PRWEB) July 27, 2011

Originally introduced by Petersen in 1988, the Freddie Awards were the first to bestow honors based on loyalty program member votes. The famously obelisk shaped crystal awards, utilized by many airline and hotel programs in their advertising, were hand delivered to the recipients by Petersen himself until 1998, when the first Freddie Award ceremony was held in New York City. With hundreds of thousands of travelers participating in the balloting, the Freddes were truly the voice of the frequent traveler.

“It was deeply disappointing when I made the decision to discontinue the Freddie Awards after the 2009 ceremony,” said Petersen. “But today I feel a great sense of joy and certainly relief as the Freddies are set to make their return with a promise to be better than ever before.”

As a result of this agreement, the Frequent Traveler Awards, an event previously produced by the FTEF will be discontinued.

“Our driving motivation for introducing the Frequent Traveler Awards was to continue the amazing legacy established by the Freddie Awards,” said Tommy Danielsen, President of FTEF. “This agreement is a testament to our belief that there is no better way to preserve the legacy of the Freddies than by reviving the original, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of it.”

Development of an updated Freddie Awards Web site and balloting interface has already begun. A Freddie Awards ceremony is tentatively scheduled for April 2012 in New York.

About the Freddie Awards

The original Freddie Awards were founded by frequent flyer guru Randy Petersen in 1988 as a way to give voice to the frequent traveler and to recognize the most popular travel loyalty programs. The awards, held from 1988-2009, were inspired by Sir Freddie Laker, who in 1978 was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his contribution to commercial aviation and the British economy. Known for his pioneering marketing ideas within the travel industry in the 1970s, Laker founded Britain’s first all-jet air carrier, Laker Airways Limited. He also founded the “SKYTRAIN” service, which revolutionized the airline industry by offering no-reservation, low-cost air service. The aviation industry and the world lost a great pioneer when Sir Freddie Laker, the namesake of the Freddie Awards, died on Feb. 9, 2006.

AirMed International Completes Successful International Transport of U.S. Embassy Worker

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (PRWEB) August 08, 2011

Leading U.S. air ambulance company AirMed International excels in international life-saving flights and recently completed a 26 hour transport from central Asia to the United States to save a young man suffering from a widely undiagnosed and potentially fatal condition.

Throughout its history AirMed (airmed.com) has conducted more than 18,000 missions to over 150 countries and has become known as one of the leaders in successful, long-distance medical flights. An FAA approved carrier with worldwide operating authority and an accredited U.S. Department of Defense air carrier, AirMed remains one of the only air medical companies able to perform complicated international flights involving critically ill patients of all ages.

Recently, AirMed completed an international transport that involved a 40 year old U.S. Embassy worker with a blood clot in his lower leg, a life threatening condition that sometimes goes undiagnosed until it is too late. Blood clots in the lower extremities (also known as Deep Vein Thrombosis or DVT) are caused by many factors including injury to the lower leg, immobility or sitting still for prolonged periods of time, such as those times associated with long distance traveling by air or car, or as a side effect to some medications just to name a few. Left untreated, they may occlude circulation to the affected extremity causing major damage or they can travel through the body in a matter of minutes/hours causing stroke, lung damage or respiratory arrest, cardiac arrest and even death.

Kirk Bradham of Missouri passed a complete physical before he began his job at the U.S. Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic. As a State Department employee, he was also required to purchase medical evacuation coverage before he left for his overseas duties. “Having searched for medevac coverage with other providers and/or brokers of medevac services, I quickly realized that the services offered by AirMed could not be matched by the other competitors,” Bradham recalled. In his late 30s and in good general health when he bought the AirMed membership, Bradham never expected to see the AirMed card again once he placed it in his wallet.

Just months later, Mr. Bradham began suffering from severe lower leg pain. After a week went by and the pain did not subside, his wife convinced him to go see a doctor. He was diagnosed with DVT, a blood clot in the lower right leg. A transport to another hospital in the United States so that he could receive proper treatment was imminent. “The U.S. Embassy nurse contacted AirMed as they considered a blood clot to be a potentially life threatening condition that required immediate attention as well as the fact that I had almost no blood supply to my right foot due to the blockage,” Bradham said. He was hospitalized temporarily at a military facility while the embassy nurse contacted AirMed, who was quickly en route to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Bradham and his wife boarded the AirMed Hawker medical jet for their 26 hour flight back to the United States. The Hawker 800 is larger than typical medical aircraft and in most cases provides room enough for a spouse or loved one to travel with the patient. Bradham said, “The ability to have your spouse travel with you is a great benefit that should not be overlooked when you are dealing with a medical condition and all the stress that comes with it. It was such a valuable benefit that I would suggest everyone who is searching for a medical evacuation plan insist on it being included.”

Once at the hospital in Missouri, two surgeries performed with micro-incisions were required along with blood thinning medication to remove the clot completely from Mr. Bradham’s leg.

Because he was an AirMed member, Bradham’s cost for the air ambulance transport, the medical team who flew with him, and the ground transportation to and from the hospital was zero dollars. Upon hearing the cost would have approached $ 140,000 if he had not been an AirMed member, Bradham noted, “When you consider how much the AirMed membership cost against the price tag of a medical evaluation and considering the level of service that was provided, I would say even a first year business student would advise you that your ROI (return on investment) is extremely high. It is one membership that you can not afford to travel or live abroad without.”

“My advice is simple: prepare for the worst and choose the best,” Bradham continued. “Choose a solid, tested company that will stand beside you throughout the whole ordeal, a company that stays focused on the goal, which is getting you safely back home to a medical facility that can treat you. After my experience, I can honestly say that AirMed is the only company that I want with me and my loved ones.”

Mr. Bradham is recuperating in his home state of Missouri and will return to his post at the U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyz once his recovery is complete.
